On a chilly autumn morning, Jonathan Linden arrives to the gates of his new school. Transferring in the middle of the semester without giving anyone any explanation, Jonathan fast attracts the attention of the other boys and makes new friends easily. However, he soon learns a boy has disappeared only a little while ago, and now Jonathan is being put in the very same room where that boy used to sleep in! However, it seems the ominous dreams he sees while sleeping there are the least of his worries: there is something odd about his mysterious roommate, Claude, who wants Jonathan to help him with investigation of the disappearance. And when everyone but Claude suddenly turns their backs on Jonathan, he finds himself in the middle of a detective game he might rather have never been a part of…
Just what happened on the night of the disappearance? Why is Claude so determined to get Jonathan to help him, and what are the mysterious letters he receives? On their way to discover the truth, the two boys start uncovering things they never knew about the school and its students, and eventually the circumstances of Jonathan’s transfer as well as Claude’s true motives start to come into the light. Will it be a good end? Or will it be a bad end? Will the boys discover the truth, or will they meet the same fate as the other boy did? |
General info
Sinfonia is an experimental game started as a joke, but somewhere along the way it transformed into a slightly more serious and ambitious project. Despite it’s original nature as a joke, Sinfonia touches themes such as death, sexuality, trust, guilt and forgiving, and may contain elements not suitable for most sensitive viewers. Majority of the characters featured are minors, and although it is SFW, it might still feature content that isn’t for everyone.
The full game contains multiple endings: a couple of bad/death ends, neutral end and true end.
Sinfonia is currently in development, and you can follow the progress from my development blog (tumblr). I highly recommend following if you want the full experience, but project planning blog will always have TL;DR game updates.
I don't know when the demo will come out: I'm sick and old and currently dealing with a lot of big personal things so it's impossible to really estimate. I'll post regular updates though to give an idea of what my current progress is. My goal is to get at least one demo out in 2018 and finish the full game script.

Where it all started
Dating back in October 2016, it started with a joke made by a friend who suggested me the idea of “an RPG but with 70s shoujo manga graphics” and then I just kind of… started thinking about it more as a concept, because I’m a fool like that.
Originally I planned to make a joke/parody of the 70s shoujos and especially the 70s BL I had read recently (mainly by Hagio and Takemiya) with a matching style and all that jazz. The idea was to make a ridiculous joke game demo and upload the “demo” out in April Fools and leave it at that: it was an april fools joke and nothing more, meant to be done for the laughs. But as it’s always with things I start as a joke, I realized I suck at parodies really hard and so obviously the next most natural action was to start taking this more seriously. I had already made the main characters out of really common vintage shoujo tropes and their designs totally showed it too, but I just decided to go head first and not look back, simply. Then things started fleshing out and I started adding more detail and less joke/parody things and more of my own things, and I feel like at this point only the visual image and some particular scenes are a remain of its original parody roots. I like to think it as some sort of homage to old shoujo though as 1.) vintage shoujo is good and 2.) there is no reason to deny my super obvious influence, but I mainly want to create my own work, not make an imitation of already existing and far superior works. However, I'm still doing this game for fun and for my own amusement, and the most important goal game making wise is to simply see the project to its end. As it's also my first proper game, please don't set your expectations too high haha. |
